How Does Invisalign Work?

Using Invisalign is super easy and convenient. Thanks to the innovative iTero Element® scanner, Dr. Barron is able to obtain a 3D scan of the layout of your teeth. This allows for a targeted treatment plan that is custom-tailored to your specific needs. Next, we’ll create your first Invisalign clear aligner that you can start wearing.

 

Each aligner is worn for about two weeks and taken out only when you eat, brush, and floss. You’ll return to Ahava Orthodontics about once every 8-10 weeks for treatment. As you replace each aligner with the next, your teeth gradually move until they’ve reached their ideal position – then you’ll be smiling like you never have before!

Invisalign is a great option to move teeth that have shifted from previous braces treatment. Many people opt for this discrete treatment over getting braces a second time. Other dental treatments such as veneers, crowns, or bridgework have to be looked at on a case by case basis. Dr. Barnes will evaluate whether or not Invisalign will be a good option for you based on your prior treatment history.

It is most important to keep your teeth and aligners clean! Brushing your teeth and aligners after you eat or drink will prevent staining, tooth decay, bad breath, and overall oral health. We also recommend always keeping your aligners in their case if they are not in your mouth. This prevents your aligners from getting lost, thrown out, or damaged.

Most orthodontists recommend that you use a retainer after any orthodontic treatment. Just like your Invisalign treatment plan, Dr. Barnes will give you a retainer treatment plan tailored for you as well. Together you will decide what kind of retainer is best for you, and when/how long you should be wearing it.

In most cases, the cost of Invisalign is comparable to the cost of traditional braces. Your total cost will be determined by how complex your orthodontic treatment is. Ask your doctor about using insurance, FSA/HSA, or if they provide payment plans options.
